Natural gas is not a given out here

Across much of Sydney, assuming natural gas is on the street is safe enough. Across this region it is not.

Plenty of properties here run on bottled LPG instead. That is a perfectly good arrangement used by a great many households, and it is not a lesser one. It is simply a different installation: different appliances, different sizing, different things the pipework has to account for.

Appliances are built for one gas or the other. Some can be converted by a licensed fitter with the correct kit, and none of them should ever be run on the wrong gas or converted by somebody without a licence.

So we settle that on the phone before quoting. It takes a minute, and across a region this long it is the difference between a quote that holds and a wasted trip for both of us.

Gas work across the region

Two different supplies out here

Natural gas in some places, bottled LPG in others, and it is worth establishing rather than assuming.

Neither is a lesser arrangement. They are simply different installations.

The appliance has to match the gas

Appliances are manufactured for natural gas or for LPG, and some can be converted by a licensed fitter with the right kit.

Running one on the wrong gas, or converting it without a licence, is illegal and dangerous.

Confirming it saves a trip

Across a long region a quote built on the wrong assumption costs everybody a day.

One question on the phone avoids it entirely.

The certificate is the record

Legally required, issued by the licensed gasfitter, and the only durable proof the work was done properly.

Keep it with the house papers, because it gets asked for at sale.

Unlicensed gas work is uninsurable

Gas fitting is licensed work in NSW with no small-job exemption.

Work done without a licence cannot be certified and will void a home insurance claim.

What gas fitting costs on the beaches

Fixed price agreed before anything starts, with no distance loading. These are indicative 2026 ranges and the certificate is included in every one.

01

Gas leak test $150 – $300

The installation pressure tested, with a written result.

02

Cooktop connected and certified $250 – $500

Connected, tested and certified, with the certificate handed over.

03

New gas point $450 – $1,200

Depending on the run and what it has to pass through.

04

Heater bayonet fitted $300 – $600

Installed and certified, sized for the appliance rather than for convenience.

05

Certificate of Compliance included

Legally required, and included on every gas job without being asked.

How a gas call-out runs.

Step 01
Booking a gas fitter on the northern beaches

We ask which gas

Natural gas or bottled LPG. Out here that is a real question and it changes the quote.

Step 02
Pressure testing a gas installation on the northern beaches

The installation tested

A pressure test on what we are connecting to, so nothing gets certified over an existing fault.

Step 03
Installing a gas appliance on the northern beaches

Fitted to standard

Installed and commissioned properly, sized for the appliance and for the gas it actually runs on.

Step 04
Handing over a gas compliance certificate on the northern beaches

Certificate handed over

Issued on the spot, and worth filing with the house papers.

Can you smell gas right now?

What the Northern Beaches locals ask us before booking a plumber.

Ask us yours Licensed plumbing van covering the Northern Beaches and the surrounding suburbs
I can smell gas. What do I do?

Get everyone outside first. Do not touch any switch, do not use a phone indoors, and if the meter or the cylinder valve is safely on your way out, turn it off. Then ring from outside. At this distance that sequence matters more than anything we could do on arrival.

Is natural gas available where I am?

Not everywhere across this region, and it is genuinely worth checking rather than assuming. Plenty of properties run on bottled LPG instead, which is a perfectly good arrangement and not a lesser one. It simply changes the appliance, the sizing and what the installation has to account for.

Does LPG change what I can install?

It changes the appliance and the setup rather than the possibilities. Appliances are made for one gas or the other, and some can be converted by a licensed fitter with the correct kit. What nobody should do is run an appliance on the wrong gas or attempt a conversion themselves.

Why does the supply question matter so much out here?

Because getting it wrong wastes a trip across a long region, for you and for us. Confirming it on the phone takes a minute and means the quote holds and the van arrives with the right thing on it.

What is a Certificate of Compliance?

The document a licensed gasfitter issues certifying the work was done to standard. It is legally required and it is the only durable record the job was done properly. Keep it with the house papers, because insurers ask for it and so does a conveyancer at sale. We issue one on every gas job without being asked.

Can I install a cooktop myself?

No. Gas is licensed work in NSW with no exemption for a small job or a capable owner. Unlicensed work cannot be certified, will void a home insurance claim, and leaves nothing on record showing it was ever safe.

What does gas work cost on the beaches?

A leak test on the installation is $150 to $300. A cooktop connected and certified is $250 to $500. A new gas point run and certified is $450 to $1,200 depending on the run. A heater bayonet is $300 to $600. The certificate is included, and there is no distance loading.
